Remembrance Day Service 2021

Remembrance Day Service 2021

15th of November, 2021

On a beautiful November morning, following a church service at St Marys Mellor, during which the "Book of Remembrance" was blessed, the Rev'd Karen Herschell led the choir and parishioners on the short walk to the War Memorial.

All gathered in silence followed by quotes from Psalm 121.1, 2 Isaiah 40.31 and Micah 6.8 and words from Revd Herschell.

The names of The Fallen and the Words of Remembrance were read out followed by the Last Post and 2 minutes silence.

The completion of the silence was followed by the playing of "The Rouse".

The laying of wreaths followed.

The honour of laying the wreath on behalf of the Parish Council was given to one of our longest serving Councillors, Margaret Johnson.

For the first time a beautiful wreath was laid in the memory of over 500,000 horses, mules, carrier pigeons , dogs and other animals who perished in the service of our nation and as casualties of war.

Later the Hymn "O God Our Help In Ages Past" rang out followed by the "Act of Commitment".

We Will Remember Them

You may wish to view the ongoing project about those from Mellor & the surrounding area who gave their lives in conflict. You may have more information on those individuals; if so, please let us know, either via this website, or by contacting any Parish Councillor, or the Clerk.
