The names of many of the war dead from this area are not inscribed on the war memorial. Mellor Parish Council with the support of Balderstone Parish Council commissioned a set of four handwritten books containing all the names and details of those who died because of the World Wars and were connected to the area.
The plan was for these books to be presented to the churches at the Memorial Service on November 8th, 2020. This of course was not possible. In addition, copies of these books will be put on public display.
All the details from the book along with other documents have been assembled into a website and can be accessed at https://mpc.mogweb.org . As new information comes to light it will be added to these records.
